Magnesium Forged Motorcycle Wheels — The Lightest Set in the Range

A magnesium forged motorcycle wheel is forged from AZ80 — a magnesium alloy roughly one-third lighter than aluminum by density — then machined to spec for the builds where rotating mass decides results. FLEXIMOTO supplies custom magnesium forged wheelsets to racing teams, track programs and ultra-premium projects: your dimensions, your spoke design, your finish.

What & Why

Why Do Racing Programs Spec Magnesium?

The physics are simple. Magnesium alloy sits at roughly 1.8 g/cm³ against aluminum's 2.7 g/cm³ — about a third lighter before the design work even starts. On a wheel, weight saved is worth double: it's rotating mass (quicker to spin up, quicker to slow) and unsprung mass (better suspension compliance) at the same time.

Forged, not cast. Like the 6061-T6 aluminum range, these wheels are forged: the AZ80 billet is compressed to align the grain structure, then machined to the final design. Forging is what lets a magnesium wheel be both this light and race-serviceable.

Where it pays off. Race series where regulations and stopwatches reward every gram, track-day programs selling the ultimate spec, and halo builds that anchor a premium catalog. If the wheel is the headline of the build, this is the wheel.

Honest guidance: is magnesium right for your product line?

Magnesium forged is the top of the range — and priced like it. For street-focused volume products, forged 6061-T6 aluminum is usually the smarter spec: lighter than cast, tougher in daily conditions, friendlier margins. Tell us who your customer is, and we'll recommend the construction that actually fits — even when that's not the most expensive one.

FAQ

Magnesium Forged Wheels — Frequently Asked Questions

How much lighter is magnesium than aluminum?

Magnesium alloy is roughly one-third lighter than aluminum by density — about 1.8 g/cm³ versus about 2.7 g/cm³. Applied to a wheel, that density advantage cuts rotating and unsprung mass beyond what any aluminum construction can reach, which is why magnesium forged is the top of the FLEXIMOTO range for weight.

Are magnesium forged wheels suitable for street use?

Magnesium forged wheels are built first for racing and track programs, where every gram of rotating mass is worth the premium. For street-focused volume products, forged 6061-T6 aluminum is usually the smarter spec — lighter than cast, tougher in daily conditions, and at a friendlier price point. Tell us your use case and we'll recommend honestly.

Does magnesium corrode? How is the wheel protected?

Bare magnesium is more reactive than aluminum, which is why surface protection matters on any magnesium wheel. Every FLEXIMOTO magnesium forged wheelset is supplied with protective surface finishing, with the finishing specification confirmed for your application as part of the project quote.

What is the minimum order for magnesium forged wheels?

One set. Team and bulk quantities are also supported — racing teams typically start with one set for testing, then order per season under the same specification.

How long does production take?

Production typically takes 25–30 days after you approve the final 3D drawing, confirmed per project. Quotes are sent within 48 working hours once your details are complete, and every order ships with tracking.

Are magnesium wheels certified and covered by warranty?

Every custom magnesium forged wheel carries a 3-year structural warranty and a 1-year finish warranty; damage from accidents, improper installation, misuse or modification is excluded. Certification and test documentation varies by product line — if your market or race series requires certificates such as JWL or DOT, state it in your quote request and we will confirm what is available for your project.
