Sample Orders for Custom Motorcycle Wheels: What to Expect Before Bulk

Custom forged motorcycle wheel sample order inspected before bulk production at FLEXIMOTO

A motorcycle wheel sample order is a single pre-production unit — one set, front and rear — that you approve before committing to bulk. It exists to verify three things in the real world: fitment on your bike, finish quality, and actual weight. Once you sign off, that exact sample becomes the reference your factory reproduces in every bulk unit.

For a first order, the sample is your risk control. It converts a spec sheet and a 3D render into a physical wheel you can bolt on, weigh, and inspect — so bulk production starts only after you’ve confirmed it’s right.

The Short Answer (TL;DR)

Before a bulk run, you order one sample set (front + rear) built to your approved drawing. Sample lead time is 25–30 days; you then inspect it for fitment, finish, weight, and machining quality. After you approve, bulk production runs 30–45 days against that locked reference. There’s no separate tooling or sample fee — the sample set is priced at our standard per-set unit price, and bulk pricing is open to discussion once we know your volume.

What a Sample Order Actually Verifies

A sample isn’t a formality — it’s a controlled test of the things that cause returns and disputes when skipped. Here’s what each sample proves before you scale.

What it checksWhy it matters for a bulk buyer
FitmentAxle diameter, spacers, brake disc / ABS ring and caliper clearance, chain/belt-side offset — confirmed on the actual bike, not on paper.
FinishReal color, gloss level, two-tone lines, and any laser engraving under natural light — screens and renders never match perfectly.
WeightActual grams vs. target, so your unsprung / rotational-mass claims to customers are backed by a measured number.
Machining & runoutBead seat, valve hole, hub face, and lateral/radial trueness — the quality baseline bulk must match.
Packaging fitHow the wheel travels and arrives, so bulk export packing is validated too.

Sample Cost & Timeline

We don’t charge a separate tooling or sample fee. Your sample set is machined to your exact spec and priced at our standard per-set unit price — so you’re not paying a surcharge just to validate the design. Lead time is 25–30 days from approved drawing to a finished, inspected sample ready to ship. Air freight for a single set is fast, and we pack samples to export standard so they arrive undamaged and inspectable.

To keep this credible before you commit larger money: the sample is where design changes are cheap. Adjusting an offset, a spoke pattern, or a finish on one unit costs a fraction of catching it after a full run.

Your Sample Inspection Checklist

When the sample arrives, don’t just look at it — measure it. Run through this before you approve:

  • Mount it. Confirm axle fit, spacer stack, disc and ABS-ring alignment, and caliper clearance on the actual bike.
  • Weigh it. Compare front and rear against the agreed target weight.
  • Check the finish. Color match, coating evenness, engraving depth and placement, center-cap fit.
  • Inspect machining. Bead seat, valve hole, hub face, and any burrs or tool marks.
  • Verify trueness. Ask for the runout / balance data, or check it if you’re equipped.
  • Photograph everything. Documented approval becomes the reference both sides hold bulk to.

From Sample to Bulk: How Consistency Is Held

The reason a sample is worth the wait is that it locks the specification. Bulk wheels are produced from the same CAD file, the same tooling, and the same finishing process as your approved sample — not re-interpreted for the larger run. Our quality-control process checks each bulk unit against that reference, including runout and final inspection, so what you approved is what ships. Because everything traces back to a 3D-approved drawing and a physically signed-off sample, there’s no gap between “what I approved” and “what arrived.”

Moving Your Sample Into Production

Once you approve, bulk runs 30–45 days after sample sign-off, with an MOQ of just one set (front + rear) — so you can scale on your own terms rather than being forced into a container to get started. Since there’s no separate sample fee, the sample isn’t a sunk cost — it’s a de-risking step at normal unit price, and bulk pricing is negotiable by volume once you’re ready. As an in-house forging and CNC factory — not a trading company — we control that path end to end; see how it works on our OEM/ODM service page.

FAQ

How much does a wheel sample cost?

There’s no separate tooling or sample fee. Your sample set is priced at our standard per-set unit price, machined to your exact spec. For bulk, pricing is open to discussion once we know your volume.

How long does a sample order take?

Sample lead time is 25–30 days from your approved drawing to a finished, inspected sample ready to ship.

What does the sample actually let me verify?

Fitment on the real bike (axle, spacers, disc/ABS clearance), finish quality under natural light, actual weight against target, and machining/runout — the exact things that cause returns when skipped.

Will my bulk wheels match the sample exactly?

Yes. Bulk is produced from the same CAD file, tooling, and finishing process as your approved sample, and each unit is QC-checked against that reference — so approved spec equals shipped spec.

What’s your MOQ after I approve the sample?

One set — front and rear. You can start small and scale, rather than committing to a large run to get moving.

How long is bulk production after I approve the sample?

Bulk production runs 30–45 days after sample approval.
